Shoppers cut it fine with present buying

An estimated seven million people in the UK will wait until Christmas Day to buy presents, research finds.

In a survey of 2,000 consumers by Sky Broadband, 14 per cent fall into the group of last minute shoppers.

A significant number of cost-conscious consumers also say that they will be logging on during the festive season to buy second hand presents (21 per cent), find out how much someone else has spent on them (19 per cent) or even sell on unwanted gifts on eBay (30 per cent).

Sky’s director of broadband and telephony Delia Bushell says: ‘We might have expected that people go online to snap up bargains in the Christmas Day sales, but few might have believed that people are prepared to wait so long to buy presents.

‘It just goes to show that money is going to be tighter than ever this year, and savvy online shoppers are prepared to explore every means possible to get the right gift.’
