CHICAGO, June 9 (UPI) — Hyatt Regency employees backed by a delegation of religious leaders demonstrated Wednesday in Chicago outside the hotel chain’s first shareholders’ meeting.

The group was especially angry at the dismissal of 100 Hyatt employees at a Boston hotel, the Chicago Tribune reported. They were laid off after a labor contractor was retained to fill the positions.

Jill Landrith, a union organizer, came to the demonstration dressed as Penny Pritzker, a member of the family that owns the chain and president of a subsidiary that operates upscale senior living facilities. As Pritzker, Landrith chomped on a cigar.

“These are my fat cats, and this is my rat,” she said.

The company was holding its first open shareholders’ meeting since becoming a public corporation.

Rabbi Barbara Penzner traveled from Boston to support the workers. She brought bitter herbs she said are the lot of Hyatt employees.

Robb Webb, senior human resources executive, emerged shortly after 10 a.m. to meet with the protesters. He called the firings in Boston “not consistent with the values of the company.”

“We’re not proud about how that was handled,” he said, although he said the workers would not get their jobs back.
